"The Awakening" Project - Contest winners and images

Over 20 CAAAP members participated in the organization's first national photographic project, "The Awakening." The purpose of the project was to document African-American life and culture during Easter Sunday Weekend, 2006. CAAAP photographers photographed in the cities of Atlanta, Chicago, New York City and Oakland. The Awakening projects first place winner was Lee Landry. Eric Clark was presented as the 2nd place winner and 3 place went to Bob Black. Raymond Mays' image of a praise dancer, at a Chicago, south-side cherch was selected as the "Best single picture." Seven other members work was also selected for honorable mention awards. The honorable mention winners were: Michael Bracey, Paul Batchlor, Erika N. Brown, Douglas Griswold, Claudette Morris, Jim Morris and Raymond Mays.
Twenty-five CAAAP members selected the winners based on the project's theme during CAAAP's picture editing workshop held in May 2006.
